Moved to London, UK at the age of two, where he has lived ever since. His family owned a small cinema in South Africa, and having been intrigued and inspired by the moving image since a very young age, he has always felt driven to express himself in the cinematic medium. On trips to South Africa, he would spend weeks at a time at the family cinema, learning how to operate the projection equipment and watching films over and over again, dissecting the images in the dark and feverishly hatching his own celluloid dreams. Sadly, the cinema met an inevitable closure early in 1999, when a multiplex opened in the town. He had always planned to make a feature that would premiere in that theatre. Dreams however, are not so easily foreclosed. Ironically, later the same year, he and his filmmaking partner and brother, Kamma Pastoll, began writing what would become their first feature. Dead Man's Dream (2002) was shot in only twenty days in early 2001. The film went on to be nominated for the Best Screenplay award at the Portobello Film Festival in 2002. His second feature, Shooting Shona (2004), was shot in the summer of 2003, and is currently in post-production.
