Jim was raised in Escanaba, Michigan. His parents are Tom & Barb Berthiaume, he has a brother: Tom, and a sister, Chris Newhouse. He graduated from Escanaba Senior High in 1983. After taking a college course, Jim moved to Nashville, TN where he was employed by the Nashville Network (TNN). Jim has worked on stage of the grand ole opry, you can be a star, fandango, nashville now tv series. was closed to Sara Cannon (Mini Pearl). Jim moved from Nashville back to Escanaba, where he started working in Radio as an on air announcer. Jim purchased the Skatin Station Roller Rink in 1990. sold the Rink in 1998. he opened North Country Truck Driving School, Inc. in 1998. Opened his sister Corporation North Country Transit, Inc. in 2000. While living in Michigan, Jim's next venture takes him to (Los Angeles) taking part in family films.
