Born into a musical artistic family (his father was a professional jazz guitarist and his mother a trained artist), he first appeared on stage at age seven, performing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" on guitar. Landed his first movie, The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh (1979), at the age of 16, appearing in three scenes. From 1979 to 1984, Richard's songwriting was prolific -- he composed and performed over 1,000 original songs, often with creative collaborator John Walker. Radio, TV and charity work followed and his role as reporter Larry Beauberry in Jesus 2000 (1998). He won the coveted New York Film Festival Award. His stellar Broadway stage performance as the lead in "Elmer Gantry" was critically praised. His first film as a director, Saving Sister Aimee (2001), won the Angel Award.
