He attended Filmschool Amsterdam (screenwriting & directing) (1987-1991), Theatre School For Directors Amsterdam (1979-1984), and UCLA Mastercourse Motion Pictures Division (1986). He directed several plays of writers like Shakespeare, Albee, Goethe, Noel Coward, Strindberg. His first short movie was 'Pierrot Lunaire' (1988-89), co-directed and co-written by Peter Delpeut, 'Eric de Kuyper' and others, based on the work of A. Schoenberg. It won the first prize at Filmfestival Belfort (France). His first feature was _Max & Laura & Henk & Willie (1989)_, a relation comedy, which was received very well. Starring Manouk van der Meulen, Marina de Graaf and Pim de la Parra.
