Studied communications and political science (Ph.D., thesis on "TV Entertainment"). Worked for years as a rock musician (2 Gold Records), journalist, TV producer and segment director. Debuted as feature film writer/director with Muttertag (1993). Leads the Austrian Box Office Hit Charts with Hinterholz 8 (1998) and Poppitz (2002). Seems to show special interest in black comedy and period pieces, e.g. Zwölfeläuten (2001) (TV). His five part feature film series Into The Future, Bravely about Austria from the 50s to the 90s saw its kickoff with "Im Reich der Reblaus" (2005).
