James was born and raised in Queens, New York and attended high school and college in New Jersey. While growing up, he focused on painting and drawing where he imagined a career as a comic book artist. In high school, he was the recipient of the highest honor in academic achievement in the arts by the Trenton Times. He was captain of the Varsity football team, played LaCrosse and Wrestled, while learning Taekwondo in the summers. At 17, a full financial-aid scholarship took him to Rutgers University where he majored in Theater and Cinema and also became a competitive Taekwondo athlete. After graduating, his first job was as a resident actor at The George Street Playhouse. There, he met renowned teacher, Uta Hagen, who gave workshops to the actors during her last great performances of "Collected Stories". In New York, James booked several commercials, print ads and television roles that eventually took him to Los Angeles where he now resides and continues acting for a living. He stays committed to classes, which have included The William Esper Studio, The Cameron Thor Studio, the Groundlings Improv Theater and The Richard Waterhouse Studio. He starred as an LAPD cop in the action film, "Almost Related" shot in Thailand where he shot guns, raced cars, jumped from tuk-tuks, saves the girl and in the end, marries her.James has been managed by Michelle Jannone since 2001 and is signed with the AKA Agency.
