His closest relatives are his mother, Ann Griffiths, and his sisters, Beryl, Sarah, and Philippa. He was forced into a two and a half year sabbatical after a personal tragedy, but returned to the acting life in mid-2000 with his first stage play as an adult, "Antigone", by Sophocles, with The United Players of Vancouver, receiving "outstanding performance" reviews in the local press (The Vancouver Courier and The Georgia Straight).
