In 1984, they gave new meaning to the term "ill". They called their album of '84 "Licensed to Ill" and used "ill" in place of "cool".
They invented the genre of music known as "rockrap".
The group consists of Mike D, Adam Yauch and Adam Horovitz.
Ranked #11 on VH1's 50 Greatest Hip Hop Artists.
Popularized the term "mullet head" (a style of haircut) in 1994 although the slang was first used twenty seven years previously by George Kennedy to describe the haircuts of Southern men in the movie Cool Hand Luke (1967).
