In 1997 he enrolled at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and under the guidance of Dr. Rosemary Henenberg, wrote several plays, including Swimming in Tapioca, which was chosen to be produced by the Hendrix Theatre Department in 1999. Three other plays he wrote during this time were produced in the Dallas area. Clinton spent his junior year in Oxford, England after winning the Hayes Study Abroad Scholarship. While there, he studied Shakespeare and Modern Theatre, and also acted and directed in several productions around the city. It was there that he performed in one of his favorite roles as Randall from Clerks. After returning to the States, he partook in several theatrical projects, including being president of the Hendrix Independent Theatre Society. In 2001, he presented original experiments of improvisation at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research, and was asked by committee to return the following year where he presented original monologues.
