Trivia Update / From: GUEST
L.A. Times (Hollywood)
Not known for being a celebrity haunt, imagine the reaction of diners and staff alike when two well-known stars were in the same East Asian restaurant at the same time. And these two are the last people who you wish to invite to the same cocktail party.
"CSI:Miami" star David Caruso was about to exit "The Pink Pepper" East Asian restaurant when he overheard a familiar voice that happened to be his co-star from "NYPD:Blue", Dennis Franz.
Over the years rumor had it that although the acting chemistry was never a problem, the two TV cops practically hated each other. The rumors were NOT rumors.
While he was about to exit, Caruso turned around and gave a nasty look to Franz while asking him, "What did you say?" Franz, not even realizing that it was Caruso addressing him, acted startled and then realized it was Caruso. Franz bolted up from his table, leaving girlfriend Joanie Zeck with her jaw nearly touching the ground and allegedly challenged Caruso to
quote "take it outside". Sounds just like the old NYPD lingo, only this time it was real.
Caruso and Franz challenged each other toe to toe for several minutes, exchanging barbs about each other's acting downfalls. At one point Franz allegedly poked Caruso in the chest at which point Caruso jumped into a martial arts stance. A good deal of restaurant patrons, some of who believed that the confrontation was a "put on", laughed and applauded.
Franz quickly chilled the mood of the room when he was heard to say, "I don't give a $%#@ who's watching. I'll throw your punk a@@ through that $%#@ window." Most of the remainder of the confrontation was not audible to the patrons; however one staff member insists that he overheard Franz say to Zeck, "Once an a@@hole, always an a@@hole." "You'd think he'd grown up by now" said Franz.
Minutes after the altercation began, the LAPD arrived on the scene. Upon hearing celebrities were involved, an additional four LAPD squad cars were summoned to "The Pink Pepper" in the event that the episode could escalate into a "Papparazzi Wet Dream". "These guys have police scanners" said Sgt. Michael Orasco of the LAPD.
Luckily no one got hurt, the patrons got a little show and no charges were filed. "What a shame" said an unidentified LAPD officer. "They did great work on the show and they carry on like kids."
Caruso left with an unidentified woman after being questioned by the police.
JMO David Caruso is clearly the star of highly successful "CSI:Miami". It's hard to believe he's still upset over Dennis Franz' enormous success on "NYPD:Blue" after he voluntarily left that show.
