Writer/Director Darius Clark Monroe had no idea that his hobby of writing would supersede his dream of becoming an architect and lead him into the world of film. In 2004, Darius graduated with honors from the University of Houston, with a BA in Communications: Media Production. While at UH, he was a television production intern for ABC and the short-film coordinator for the 2004 Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival. In the fall of 2004, Darius enrolled at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Film Program, the number one ranked film program in the country.Last year, Darius wrote/produced/directed the award winning short film "Testify", which has screened at the Cleveland International Film Festival, London Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival, and the Miami Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival to name a few. "Testify" was also a PlanetOut Short Film Finalist and can now be seen all over the U.S. and Canada on the LOGO Network and LOGO Online."Midway" his latest short film, was adapted from Jean Paul Sartre's play "No Exit" and is a short film stemming from a NYU Production Design Collaboration course taught by Hollywood Production Designer Kristi Zea (The Departed, Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia), Art Director David Stein (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), and Oscar nominated filmmaker Milcho Manchevski (Before the Rain, Dust, Shadows)."Midway" stars Albert Hall (Apocalypse Now, Malcolm X, Ali) and Keith Davis (Seen on Broadway in 'Festen' alongside Jeremy Sisto and Julianna Marguiles and in 'Julius Caesar' starring Denzel Washington). "Midway" will premiere in the HBO Short Film Competition at the 11th Annual American Black Film Festival.As of 2007, Monroe is a 4th year thesis student, producing/directing his next film, a feature length documentary entitled "Evolution of a Criminal"(A 2007 Texas Filmmakers Production Fund Grant Recipient).He resides in Brooklyn, New York, but Houston, Texas is always home.
