Mark Whiting / Biography

Born and raised in Michigan, Mark was an artist from the age of 3, a shortstop by the age of 5 and a filmmaker by the age of 10. After years of waiting for a call from Detroit Tigers Mark finally decided to hang up his spikes and move to California and buff his stuff at the world renowned Art Center College of Design (Pasadena). Upon graduating in 1989 he began a career as an editorial and book cover illustrator but soon decided to combine his two remaining passions, art and film, jostling his way into the animation industry and quickly making a name for himself as an art director and production designer. Though garnering several Annie Award nominations in the process his diverse talents and lifelong obsession with film was still left wanting. So with the reserve of Warner Bros. booty he'd amassed over the years Mark set out to write and direct his own work. The result was the award winning live-action short Apple Jack (2003).What followed is something somewhere beyond ridiculous: Mark is now represented by the uber powerful Creative Artists Agency and is currently writing and directing his first live-action feature film with best picture Oscar winning producer Edward Saxon (Silence of the Lambs).Stay tuned.
