Neil began his acting career at the tender age of eleven, appearing as an altar boy in the opera Esclamonde at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, alongside Dame Joan Sutherland. However, there was a break in his theatrical career as he concentrated on his studies but during this time he worked with The Royal Shakespeare Company in London as a stage-hand.In December, 1993 he wrote, directed and appeared in the short film "Of Sound Mind", which was selected for the Halloween Society's short film festival in the summer of 1995 after an ill-fated attempt to gain entrance to the National Film & Television School. He continued to write and direct short films and in 1994 he made Reservoir Guide Dogs - a spoof film trailer that was later shown on Channel Four. However, disillusioned with the way the film industry was run in the UK, he dropped out of the scene altogether and moved onto the web, creating short animation features using the latest computer software. There he stayed until 2004, when he nabbed a small role in the feature film Trash House - creating the film's opening credit sequence in return for the part of the surgeon.
