Adam Dubin was born in New York City, where his father (who worked on the Manhattan Project) owns a prominent heating company. Some of his earliest memories are of his father's courageous but ultimately unsuccessful run for congress in 1968 on an anti-Vietnam War platform. Adam began making films in junior high school. He went to NYU film school where he was roommates with Def Jam founder Rick Rubin. His big break came from Rubin a few months after graduation when he directed the music video classics "Fight For Your Right To Party" and "No Sleep Till Brooklyn" by The Beastie Boys.In 1990, he joined Propaganda Films where he had the opportunity to work alongside the biggest music video directors at the time, David Fincher, Michael Bay, Dominic Sena and Nigel Dick. There he directed documentaries and the "Nothing Else Matters" music video for Metallica. He directed many other music videos including two for The Black Crowes. In 1994, he directed his first feature film Drop Dead Rock (1995) starring Deborah Harry and Adam Ant whom he met while working at Propaganda. In 2001, he directed the "Revolution" music video for Stone Temple Pilots, the proceeds of which go to 9/11 charities. A chance meeting backstage at a 1997 Metallica show with comedian Jim Breuer (an avid heavy metal fan) turned into a friendship that led to Adam directing the combination rock and comedy concert film "Heavy Metal Comedy".
