Travis A. Jackson was born on November 15, 1978 in Seattle, Washington, USA. His family moved many times around the Puget Sound. He also lived in Salem, Oregon and Waco, Texas. His parents divorced when he was about 5 years old. After the divorce, his mother, Alice, moved the family to the Seattle area where he was raised along with his 2 sisters and brother. His father, Lee Jackson, was a published songwriter before his death in 1999. Travis began screenwriting in 1995 and has written over 35 feature film screenplays. He has strong Scottish and Irish roots, which reflect in his filmmaking.
