Brooding, explosive leading man in young Hollywood whose inner vulnerability and worldliness harkens back to James Cagney, John Garfield, and Marlon Brando. From the San Fernando Valley, Lander was expelled from several schools growing up, his aggressive nature no doubt intensified by his father's terminal illness (Von Hipple-Lindau syndrome) which left the senior Lander severely physically disabled when Phil was only 8 years old.Respecting his family's wishes, he chose not to pursue his passion for acting and instead took up sports as an outlet for his inner angst. After a stint as a local football star, Lander "donned the tights" and embarked upon a career moonlighting as an pro wrestling star while studying film at UC Santa Barbara. In Santa Barbara, he also hosted a talk show, The Phenomenal Radio Hour.It was during this time that Lander decided to finally pursue acting, appearing in several independent films and stage productions. Upon graduating, he moved back to the Los Angeles area and studied acting at the famous Sanford Meisner Center for the Arts and under Marlon Brando in Brando's only outing teaching the craft, Lying for a Living. After taking care of his dying father in 2003, Lander traveled to Europe for several months to see the world and put his life in perspective. Upon returning to Los Angeles in 2004, he embarked on his acting career with renewed zeal. His most notable outings have been as cynical womanizer Chris in Cycles and the lone officer Scott Masters who stands up to police corruption in Zombie Nation.
