Co-founder of San Diego's Asian American Repertory Theatre, Andy Lowe is a community activist, playwright, director, actor, and sometimes lighting and scenic designer. Andy has served for AART as Producing Artistic Director since 1997. For his efforts, Andy has been recognized by the Latina/Latino Unity Coalition, received special commendation from San Diego Mayor Dick Murphy, and was selected by PoliticalCircus.com as one of the "Top 30 Most Influential Asian Pacific Americans Under the Age of 30." His stageplay The Cultural Hyphen won production in the California Young Playwrights Contest in 1994, and he has received critical praise as a stage director for Cleveland Raining, Trying to Find Chinatown, F.O.B. (2001), The Goddess of Flowers, and Fentor. Andy has appeared in numerous stage productions, television shows, movies and in music videos with artists such as Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez, and the Dub Pistols. Andy serves on the board of directors for the SD Chapter of the Organization of Chinese Americans, and has been the director of entertainment for the APIA Heritage Month Festival in San Diego since its inaugural 2002 event.
