John is the eldest of 5 children, he was educated at St. Colman's College, Newry, and Central School of Speech and Drama, London.
John has a sister, Susan Lynch, who is an established actress in London. Along with appearing in Roan Inish she was also in Interview with the Vampire and an episode of the British crime series "Cracker".
