Self-taught filmmaker David J. Nock has always been an avid follower of cinema. A true movie buff, Nock wanted to make films from a very early age. So far, his career has been dominated by short films and independent productions; a sector he certainly feels comfortable in.Born near Birmingham, England, Nock took the first steps to realizing his dream by studying film at university. He also attempted to find work as a critic; writing regular reviews and columns on-line. After getting a few articles printed in the academic publication MediaMagazine, his confidence grew. It was around this point that he came across local film enthusiast Kevin Powis, who shared similar ambitions. Powis's aim was to produce low-budget shorts, and he employed Nock as a screenwriter; helping to form the "Last Independent" production company. Their first project - a comedy caper entitled The Golden Sphere - was written by Nock in 2003, but failed to find success on the festival circuit. It was clearly a work by first-time filmmakers, although the experience was educational...Nock is yet to write another script for Last Independent, but has contributed to most of Powis's projects since then. His subsequent credits with the filmmaker include Nightwalk (an adaptation of the poem by Michael A. Hunter - another Last Independent alum), and surprise success The Killin'. A short horror comedy, The Killin' defied expectations by playing at festivals throughout the UK. It also received critical praise. In 2006, Nock worked with Powis to develop "The Green Studio" - a music video off-shoot from Last Independent, that pursued local, unsigned talent. He aims to direct, with Powis producing. Proud of Powis's achievements, Nock hopes to mark his feature-directing debut under the Last Independent banner some time in the future. He has also collaborated with writer/director Thomas Lee Rutter at Britsploitation Entertainment; this time as a performer. Rutter's first effort, Full Moon Massacre, is slated for a DVD release in 2007 (which boasts a cameo from Nock as a werewolf victim). Following that, Rutter cast him as the lead in Mr. Blades, which is in post-production.With several projects on the go, Nock continues to make his mark on underground filmmaking...
