I wanted to be a gypsy.
Seriously. I went to BYU after H.S. because my parents wanted me to go there, but I really wanted to go to Broadway and tread the boards. I was a triple threat in H.S.; put some polish on me, and I was sure I’d be a star.
So it’s really fun to read things like BroadwayWorld’s Gypsy of the Month. It’s interesting to read about Luis Salgado, about how he got where he is (really incredible stuff, coming out of Puerto Rico, running his own dance school, running of to NYC to chase his dreams…he needs his own movie).
But then I saw this bit about a movie he’s in:
"In Julie Taymor’s Vietnam-era Across the Universe, which also features some animation as well as a score by the Beatles, he plays a hippie in the “Come Together” number and a sergeant in a dream sequence (the movie should be out in September)."
Julie Taymor? Doing a show based on the Beatles Music?
And then this bit:
"Salgado is so satisfied with his current gig, he turned down a role in a new musical adaptation of Carmen, being staged by Cirque du Soleil director Franco Dragone for a June-July run at La Jolla Playhouse."
Pardon me. I must dance around with glee for a bit…

Luis Salgado…an inspiration!
February 22, 2007 2:54 am Posted by ghee
All right,no more negative vibes, good vibes are in my blood now.Your definitions and opinions regarding “FALLING Dream” were all so interesting. Some said its bad, some said it has positive meaning, and some got the idea from FREUD,that maybe I have that unfulfilled sex urges??hahaha! That was funny! But hey, maybe that`s what lacking…my desire??LOL!
Spring is in the air.I used to like it but now no more coz of my hay fever.Shikesss,I`m in a very desperative mode everyday.Imagine the itchy senses, especially my eyes, theyre swollen now,a matter of fact, the sneezing and the needing of tissue.Ewwww…terrible…One box of tissue a day…
Something made my day sooo bright yesterday;an email from a “friend”…An artist:An actor,a singer,a dance instructor and has this “blessed”looks…young, passionate and really down-to-earth Puerto Rican guy that is very busy breaking his leg at New York,City. He used to be one of the stars of Mambo Kings,he made some films and now traveling around the world doing great shows.
His name is Luis Salgado!!You could visit his blog to see the details of his shows and achievements.
How did I meet him?
It`s been two years…I used to learn a modern ballet. My instructor was too fond of me and told me that I should join this workshop that would be attended by a “Young and hot” Broadway Artist.I had a doubt,of course, coz I wasnt that good enough and i hesitated that I might couldnt cope up with the dance steps. She encouraged me of course, besides you could speak English and I`m sure you would enjoy the workshop and it wouldnt happen everyday,”she pushed”..There…I attended the second and third day of his dance lessons.
OMG!!He was more than I`ve expected!!The minute my eyes caught him,my blood ran fast,my heart thug disturbingly. But soon as I`ve approached him and talked to him a little,I thought he`d be a snob and egoist guy, you know, but no…He was so easy to approach. He gave me a hug that made my tensed body relaxed a little.
He`s really a professional and a considerate guy..He danced perfectly, energetically, passionately and powerfully!!I couldnt dance very well coz at that moment,I just wanted to watch his every move.LOL!
That was our first meeting. Our communication continued thru emails, then he started his own blog,I visited there and commented a lot but he answered them in return.
The last time,he came here again to teach us.That was Dec 2005.He never changed..He`s the sweetest creature I`ve ever met. He`s really a “sweetheart”..,and will remain sweetheart for me forever..he`s an inspiration…whenever I find myself full of exhaustions, seeing his pic and remembering all the things he taught us make me become myself again…make me passionate and hunger for more challenges in life…make me realize to live my life to the fullest..to make every single thing worthy to commemorate when I become older…oldest…whatever!LOL!
Before I post this entry,I caught him online and exchanged messages thru Hi5 profile account. That made me soooo excited!!whoahhhhh! And he`s coming again on May!!Yay!!Hopefully!!Im gonna plead to every saint I know for his coming, hahaha!
Love you Luis!!Wherever you are and whatever you`re doing!!
And please…as I`ve told you before…always put your feet on the ground…

I had the privilege of sharing the stage with Luis when I lead the bound for Broadway Musical "MAMBO KINGS". It was a pleasure knowing that we always counted on him on stage, on top of that he is a gifted performer who just loves what he does. Jaime Camil

Luis is a wonderful artist!!
A very friendly teacher..I happened to meet him at his workshops here in Japan. He was so energetic and he never lacked giving us(his students)advices every now and then.He inspired us..,he challenged us..,he let us felt the freedom and fun of dancing...I sensed that the students appreciated his teachings more than they thought...
One thing I admire in him is being a"down-to-earth"person.He always wear his perfect smile whenever you approach him.Hope you never change..
We are all looking forward to seeing you again here in Japan.
Hi Luis!!You are always on the run..,but dont forget to take a break, breathe some air if you felt you needed some...
Good luck!!
