Since I live in Sacramento, I go to Grass Valley all of the time. Most of the locals don't even know he is. It is a shame that he never got involved with them and the arts community. It is a wonderful place.
I know he claims to be part Charokee, but he is in my family tree and his mother, Gladys Schwanda was from Czechoslovakia. And the Walkers were from England. It is impossible for him to have Cherokee blook in him.
His twin sister, Lucy, was married to my mothers brother Paul Westbrook from Alton, IL where he was from.
I think it is a shame that he never told the truth about his genealogy!
