ABBA interview

Interview on Rapport, 1978.
Translation:
ABBA in great format on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, it's a great venture ABBA are doing on the American market. "ABBA -- the largest selling group in the record industry" as is stands on the advertisement sign, which are the largest you can procure in Hollywood. And it's only the beginning. ABBA are already selling hundred of thousands records in USA, but when the campaign are over it's about millions. The thing that will make the breakthrough is ABBA's participation in the big star Olivia Newton-John's TV show. Olivia and the producer Steve Binder are enthusiastic about ABBA, and now in the end of May it's fourty millions around in America that will have seen this show, that they're rehearsing in a studio in Los Angeles. It's one of America's largest TV shows with a budget of more than three millions kronor and with ABBA as guest artists.

-English speaking part-

The proffessional marketing are running at the same time. The man who takes care of this is Tony Scotty on Scotty Brothers in Los Angeles, America's biggest specialists of introducing pop singers with huge successes. ABBA will be turned to superstars, megastars, it's a million investment and a big advertisement machinery that have been turned on. Radio stations, TV corporations, press and weekly magazines will be worked up. In a few weeks ABBA will be famous over America with millions of records sold. The time is right and ABBA is the right product.

-English speaking part-

ABBA themselves are committed 2,5 millions kronor on this campaign, as much as ABBA's distributor in America. But already after this TV programme they're counting on to get 10-15 millions kronor back. And if the ABBA-fever spreads around it can be much more money. It's enormous money and it makes ABBA to one of Sweden's most successful export industries. ABBA will be locomotives and pull-help to Swedish export industry. That's big business. For ABBA it's more money and more fame, but in the middle of the rattle of the millions it's suddenly something missing, something that's important and more important than gold.

Frida: People have forgot or people who are writing about this have forgot where it all began, and all money that it's been written so much about would never have come if not the creative side have existed. And it's that there is, it's that there all about for me and for all of us, that we are four ordinary people that are working with something we had the luck and hapiness to succeed with, and furthermore likes so much.

Agnetha: And we have feelings and we get hurt if we get jumped on all the time and it only are talk about money. Because we are proud of what we are performing, and it's that we want to get through. And it's that we want to talk about. Not money.

Stars and money however belong together and the million rulliance are already spinning. Knut Stålberg for Rapport in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Homeless Court

In town of Stockton, next door to St.Mary's church, a dining room of the Comminity Center becomes a courtroom once a month. This court, outside of the traditional courtroom and courthouse, is a new program called Homeless Court, and the one which was held this Thursday was only the fourth such session in Contra Costa County. But the nation's first homeless court was established 17 years ago in San Diego; Steve Binder, a deputy public defender with the San Diego Public Defenders Office, is the founder of the Homeless Court.
