Every Time You Fall

This is the song "Every Time You Fall" from the Academy for New Musical Theatre mini-musical "Cain and Abel: the Naked Truth." Music by Madley Katarungan, Book by Myrna Emata, Lyrics by Kellen Blair.

In this scene, God vents about humankind's nonstop whining.

"Every Time You Fall"

God:

When Adam was alone,
The moaning never stopped.
But the moans have only grown
Since the population popped.
It feels like every time I get a break,
You've found another way to make the same mistake!

Every time you're up against a wall, you call.
Even when that wall is really small, you call.
You're always standing tall when you're on top of it all.
But every time you fall, you call!

Even though you're free to live your will, you whine.
Gave you every skill you need and still, you whine.
Your cup begins to fill and then you're suddenly fine.
But every time you spill, you whine!

Can't you see the beauty all around you?
The buds that bloom with freshly fallen rain.
Each sight and sound around you should astound you.
But you complain and all of a sudden it
Makes me feel like floodin' it!

Every time the wind stirs up the dust, you shout.
Even when it's just a little gust, you shout.
It's really quite disgusting how you endlessly pout.
But every time I bust you out,
You find another matter you can chatter about
And you call, and you whine, and you shout!

See The Light

This is the song "See the Light" from the Academy for New Musical Theater mini-musical "Cain and Abel: the Naked Truth." Music by Madley Katarungan, Book by Myrna Emata, Lyrics by Kellen Blair.

In this scene, Cain, hoping to return to the Garden of Eden, tries to convince Trudy (Abel's fiance) to protest the no-nakedness law by stripping.

"See the Light"

Cain:
Trudy,
Can you hear it?
The sound of muffled calls?
That's your body's desperate struggle
To escape its prison walls.
Can't you see that bright tomorrow?
Not a single sock in sight.
But we have to make my brother see the light.

Trudy,
Can you feel it?
That tingle in the air?
That's the tingle of your body
Saying, "Trudy, make me bare!"

Give your belly independence.
Save your pelvis from its plight.
Simply help me help my brother see the light.

I've been watching heaven from a distance,
Trapped behind these scrappy sheets of leather,
While a wondrous garden grows
Just a world beyond our clothes.
But I know that we can make it if we take them off together.

Trudy,
Can you smell it?
The joyous scent of skin?

Trudy:
I smell that skin.

Cain:
Can you taste that golden future,
Wearing nothing but a grin?

Trudy:
It tastes like a dream

Cain:
This crusade may be a challenge,

Trudy:
Then we better start tonight,

Cain:
We just have to make my brother

Trudy:
Yes, we have to your your brother

Cain / Trudy:
We just have to make our brother see the light.

One Button at a Time

This is the song "One Button at a Time" from the Academy for New Musical Theatre mini-musical "Cain and Abel: the Naked Truth." Music by Madley Katarungan, Book by Myrna Emata, Lyrics by Kellen Blair.

In this scene Trudy tries to convince her fiance, mayor Abel, that he can overcome his fear of nakedness if he takes it just one button at a time.

"One Button at a Time"

Trudy:
Abel, I've been thinking,
It wouldn't be a sin
If I took a little look at just a little skin.
Though the law forbids it, would it really be a crime?
If we take it slowly just... one button at a time.

Abel, what's the matter?
It isn't gonna hurt.
Lose your apprehensions and your worries and your shirt.
What's the point of hiding while your body's in its prime?
Loosen up and take it just... one button at a time.

Trudy: We'll take baby steps.

Abel: (WHEEZE and WHEEZE and) System crashing.

Trudy: Just a glimpse of shoulder?

Abel: (WHEEZE and WHEEZE and) Body shaking.

Trudy: One little kneecap?

Abel: (WHEEZE and WHEEZE and) Visions flashing.
Stomach aching. Rashes rashing. (WHEEZE).
Room is spinning. Getting dizzy. Head is feeling (WHEEZE) odd. (WHEEZE).

Trudy (simultaneous with below):
Abel, what's the matter?
It isn't gonna hurt.
Lose your apprehensions and your worries and your shirt.
What's the point of hiding while your body's in its prime?
Loosen up and take it just... one button at a time.

Abel (simultaneous with above):
(WHEEZE and WHEEZE and) System crashing.
(WHEEZE and WHEEZE and) Body shaking.
(WHEEZE and WHEEZE and) Visions flashing.
Stomach aching. Rashes rashing. (WHEEZE).
Room is spinning. Getting dizzy. Head is feeling (WHEEZE) odd.
God, oh God, oh God, oh God, oh God!

OH GOD!

New Eden

This is the song "New Eden" from the Academy for New Musical Theatre mini-musical "Cain and Abel: the Naked Truth." Music by Madley Katarungan, Book by Myrna Emata, Lyrics by Kellen Blair.

In this scene Eve (with the help of her son, Abel) tries to convince the people of New Eden that they've really been better off since she took a bite of that... er... since they DECIDED to leave the Garden.

"New Eden"

Eve:
Paradise was vastly overrated.
Perfection really wasn't that incredible.
Our blessings have increased, since we moved a little east,
Where at least we know that all the fruit is edible.

Eden was a breeding ground for boredom.
Every "perfect" moment felt the same.

Abel:
So what's a little sorrow now and what's a little shame?

Eve / Abel:
We've got all that we need in New Eden!

Eve:
Now we know the joys of wearing clothing,
Dresses made of fine exotic fur.

Abel:
So what if now the tigers aren't as friendly as they were?

Eve / Abel:
We will always succeed in New Eden!

Eve:
True,
Garden life was "pleasant."

Abel:
The grass was slightly greener,
The air a little fresher.

Eve:
Still,
Though it's flaws were fairly hidden,
It got tricky keeping track of
What's allowed and what's forbidden.

Abel (spoken):
Bring us home, mom!

Eve: (spoken):
You got it, son!

Eve:
Knowledge of the ways of good and evil

Abel:
All that lovely knowledge.

Eve:
Made us so much wiser and aware.

Abel:
It's true!

Eve:
It's great, I swear!

Abel:
So what if worldly wisdom brought a dosage of despair?

Eve:
That perfect little garden was the place that we were scarred in,

Eve / Abel:
But our joy is guaranteed in New Eden!
