Harvey Weinstein, Shut Up & Sing, PFAW Foundation
People For the American Way Foundation www.pfaw.org
Harvey Weinstein, Weinstein Co chairman, and co-founder of Miramax Films, introduces the documentary, Shut Up & Sing at the New York City premiere on Tuesday, October 24th. "To hang out with the Dixie Chicks is to remind us about integrity in this country and also something sorely lacking—courage," Weinstein said.
On Tuesday October 24th, the all-female Texas trio of Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson—otherwise known as the Dixie Chicks—flew into New York for the star-studded premiere of Shut Up & Sing, which was co-sponsored by People For the American Way Foundation and Young People For!
The documentary, directed by Oscar-winner Barbara Kopple, chronicles the aftermath of Maines' comments during a performance on March 10, 2003 in London: "Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."
Those 15 words, on the eve of the American invasion of Iraq, sparked an uproar. (It should be noted that two months earlier, President Bush spoke 16 words in this State of the Union that would spark a future controversy of an entirely different magnitude: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.")
Interviewed on the red carpet, the Dixie Chicks stood strongly behind Maines' remarks from three years ago and her First Amendment rights. "I was right to have free speech and to use free speech," Maines told "Access Hollywood."
Shut Up & Sing opens in New York and Los Angeles on October 27 and nationwide.
The film travels with the Dixie Chicks, from their peak of popularity as the national-anthem-singing darlings of country music and top-selling female recording artists of all time, through the now famous anti-Bush comment, and on through the days, months and years of mayhem. The film follows the country singers' lives and careers through the writing and recording of their first album since "the incident" and three years of political attack, making music, birthing babies, bonding, death threats, and laughter. At the end, the film presents a complete reconsideration of who people think they are, who they want to be and who, ultimately, they really are as women, as public figures, and as musicians.

The Girls will stop at nothing to bag their elephant while showing mere mortals dressing for that red carpet premiere doesn't have to cost the earth. It may not be the Oscars but they got to bump into the real Queen (not Dame Helen Mirren pretending in America) and Sting and Sir Richard Branson. Quite a hatrick.

VogueTV Does Cannes II
Dita von Teese took her clothes off and Kylie sang with Sharon Stone - so it was great," said Harvey Weinstein at Quintessentially's Amfar Ball after-party. He was followed down the Hotel du Cap's red carpet by a stream of supermodels: Claudia Schiffer, in Chanel, supermodel Lily Donaldson, in Marc Jacobs, and Gemma Ward, in Balmain. "We're both digging Balmain at the moment," smiled Ward, before heading inside to have a dance with Mischa Barton.

Weinstein - Apple - Sony BMG - Amazon - Echostar - CBS - FCC
APPLE will reportedly offer iTunes movie rentals from Warner Bros., Fox, Paramount, and Lions Gate. Rentals will cost $3.99 for 24 hours. An announcement is expected during the Steve Jobs keynote at Macworld on January 15th.
HARVEY WEINSTEIN told reporters that WEINSTEIN CO. has signed an interim deal with the WGA. Weinstein called it a "done deal" that he expects to officially sign this morning. The self-declared "lightning rod" hopes the deal will push the major studios to return to the bargaining table.
SONY BMG has officially announced that it will sell its entire catalog DRM-free on the Amazon MP3 download service. Amazon is now the only music download service selling unrestricted tracks from all four major labels. Dropping DRM has become a tactical necessity, as the labels look for a way to break Apple's stronghold on the music download market. Any serious iTunes competitor must offer iPod compatibility, a major benefit of the MP3 format.
ECHOSTAR received CNET's Home Video "Best of CES" award for the TR-50, a digital-to-analog converter box. The feature-packed box includes a DVR that will record free over-the-air broadcasts of HDTV, a 7-day program guide to schedule recordings, an Ethernet connection for Internet functions and more. The TR-50 is the enhanced version of the stripped-down TR-40, a converter box that will be fully covered by the NTIA's converter coupon program. The TR-50 offers a compelling solution for consumers that don't have (or don't want) cable or satellite service.
CBS will sell four TV stations to Four Points Media Group for $185 million. The deal finishes a round of medium and small market sell-offs for the network that began in 2006. CBS sold 11 TV stations and 39 radio stations during that time for almost $1 billion. It now owns 29 TV stations and 140 radio stations.
THE FCC has given approval to a deal that will take Clear Channel Communications private for $19.5 billion. As part of the deal, the company will sell off 448 of its 1,150 radio stations. Shareholders have approved the deal and are now waiting for acceptance by the Justice Department.

US GOVERNMENT TRYING TO SEIZE NEW MICHAEL MOORE FILM *SICKO*
MAY 20, 2007 CNN NEWSROOM American authorities. Now, according to movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, whose Weinstein Company is behind the film, the US government is attempting to impound the negative. According to Weinstein, the US Treasury's moves meant "we had to fly the movie to another country"- he would not say to where. "Let the secret service find that out - though this is the same country that thought there were weapons of mass destruction, so they'll never find it." http://film.guardian.co.uk/cannes2007/story/0,,2083430,00.ht ml

6ft Chickan
Copter fly around in their flying saucer rocking out and crashing into stuff. The video was constructed from footage filmed for the ill-fated Miramax produced "Copter Motion Picture" directed by maverick film Director Gary Wood.
Needless to say the movies complex plot-line and exuberant special effects budget was too much for the Hollywood fat cats at Miramax films. During filming of the now infamous "lizard lady wrestling scene" (in which I'd like to say Warren was giving a most stellar performance) Gary Wood and executive producer Harvey Weinstein finally came to blows.
I believe the fracas ensued when Gary suggested that he wanted to surgically graft a giant lizard tale onto the lizard ladies rear-end as a stand against the use of CGI. The actress playing the lizard lady Beverly D'Angelo, of National Lampoons Vacation fame was ready to embrace the challenge. However Harvey felt a twelve million dollar experimental cosmetic operation coupled with another eight month break in filming to allow for time healing after surgery was possibly too much for a two minute cameo. Rightly Gary stuck to his artistic guns and it all erupted into an almighty brouhaha. Escaping with half an ear missing and a severe limp Weinstein and his brother exacted their revenge, the sound stages were closed down and all our film was confiscated.
Anyway to cut a long story short several months later a drunken M.I.L.O stormed Miramax beat the shit out of security and stole back most of the film. We spent 24 hours inter-cutting the usable film with live footage shot from our less successful and little known "ColdRice Underground - Beta Version" performance which was a complete failure as due to a miss calculation in Standby's rude math and some poor judgement calls from our marketing division. We booked ourselves to play in the toilet at Coptercentral and we neglected to inform anyone that we were performing in order to keep the event ultra-exclusive.
Anyway finally here it is for your viewing pleasure!
Enjoy, and spread the word.

Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton have a baby girl
Hello, I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Monday, December 17, 2007.
Actress Helena Bonham Carter and her boyfriend director Tim Burton have welcomed their second baby. Bonham's rep tells People magazine the actress gave birth to a girl on Saturday...there's no word yet on a name. The new addition joins the couple's four year old son Billy. Both Bonham Carter and Burton found out last week that they're nominated for Golden Globes for the film "Sweeny Todd."
Film producer Harvey Weinstein has found his own leading lady. The movie mogul married fashion designer Georgina Chapman at his waterfront estate in Connecticut over the weekend. Big stars like Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, and Renee Zellweger reportedly attended the event. One guest says it was a very intimate and romantic ceremony under the stars. The pair first started dating in 2005.
Celine Dion gave an emotional final performance in Las Vegas over the weekend. The singer took the stage for the last time at Caesars Palace hotel on Saturday night. Her "A New Day" show has had a nearly five year run, grossing more than 400 million dollars. At the final show, Dion called her experience a "wonderful adventure." Following her last song, the singer was greeted onstage by her 7 year old son and husband Rene Angelil.
Will Smith's new film lead the way at U.S. box offices over the weekend. The sci-fi thriller "I am Legend" starring Smith and Alice Braga debuted at number one, bringing in more than 76 million dollars in ticket sales. "Alvin and the Chipmunks" starring Jason Lee grabbed the second spot. And landing in third was "The Golden Compass" with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig. That's all according to Box Office Mojo.
Several music superstars took the stage in south Florida for this year's Jingle Ball over the weekend. Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton hosted the event. Artists like Nelly Furtado and former "American Idol" contestant Elliot Yamin were just a few of the performers. Natasha Bedingfield was also there as well as R&B star Sean Kingston and the Plain White T's.
That's all for now. For more on those stories and all the day's news go to upi.com. Thanks for watching.

Resort Dior by John Galliano 2007
NEW YORK, May 16, 2006—With Spike Lee, Harvey Weinstein, and Axl Rose watching from the front row, John Galliano presented his Dior cruise collection in New York City for the first time Tuesday night. And if there was any confusion about the newfound importance of this once-insignificant season, the celebrities, the pink champagne, and the sweeping views of 57th Street through the glass walls of the LVMH Tower Magic Room—not to mention the posh private dinner at the Four Seasons that followed—dispelled it. "We're pressured by our customers to show more and more in advance, because of our success here in the U.S.," said LVMH Chairman Bernard Arnault post show. "John responded with a mix of creativity and modernity."
In this case, modernity unequivocally meant wearability. The models' cropped, punkish wigs notwithstanding, the runway theatrics Galliano regularly produces for Dior's couture and ready-to-wear shows were replaced here by a lineup of clean, easy pieces cut in innovative fabrics. Pea jackets and trenches came in laminated cottons, while skirts—pleated or pencil—and sexy, super-skinny pants were shown in metallic linens that caught the light. A fur made from strips of mink spliced with net and paillettes topped a cocktail dress, the hem of which was edged with sequins that echoed the skyline silhouetted outside.
Where separates were mostly pared-down, evening numbers featured elaborate cuts and draping. Paradoxically, the latter had the more relaxed effect. One chiffon frock was suspended from a single brushed-metal shoulder strap that also appeared as bracelets on clutch bags, and a lamé minidress complete with a built-in hoodie seemed designed for Dior's youngest followers. For those hungering after a flash of Galliano's signature extravagance, it came at the finale: a pale mint deshabille gown of chiffon and taffeta that billowed like the most exuberant of his couture creations.
