Major Pugachev Ivan Ivanovich fearlessly fought for his motherland. During the war he had a serious injury and he got into German prison. The front line was very close. Russians attack. German command makes a decision to get rid of the prison and all its prisoners. General Vlasov comes the day before this massive execution.
General encourages Russian soldiers to fight with Germans against Russians. But for major Pugachev and his friends to agree means to betray their native country. Instead of going with Vlasov's army, the soldiers decide to run away...
Pugachev and his companions manage to come out of barbed wire and get to Russian troops. But instead of long-awaited freedom together with Vlasov's companions they are doomed to being tortured, questioned and sentenced: Colyma, 10 years of penal servitude holding them up to shame: national enemy...
