George Costigan's excellent Lorre (Greek Interpreter -1985)
Thanks, Nancy, for the amazing research! :)
George Costigan plays the bespectacled, cane-wielding baddie Wilson Kemp in the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes episode "The Greek Interpreter". In the show, he and his partner in crime kidnap a Greek man so that they can inherit the victim's sister's money. Costigan himself stated that he studied the role of Lorre's Joel Cairo to adopt his mannerisms and accent for the part. Obviously he does a marvelous job, doing an impersonation of Lorre that is neither simpering nor hysterical but merely adopting the sleek, menacing, and nervous habits of the amazing Mr. Cairo.
In this scene, a Greek interpreter relays to Sherlock Holmes, Watson, and Mycroft his frightening evening of translating between the kidnapped man and the baddies.
