Jaheim's considerable vocal talents only increased during the recording of his second album, and a stronger set of songs made Still Ghetto a definite improvement over the debut. As before, it all begins with his voice: a deep, throaty croon that makes him sound at least ten years older than he actually is (basically, about as old as the soul samples dotted throughout the record) and marks him as one of the few R&B artists active who can summon the spirit of a Teddy Pendergrass. Better yet, Jaheim takes the loverman persona to another level, devoting more songs here to relationships than love itself; one of the best is "Put That Woman First," his remake of the Stax nugget William Bell's "I Forgot to Be Your Lover," a great performance that's a natural fit with his persona. The single "Fabulous" is simply beautiful, balancing a back-in-the-day feel with self-esteem issues and riding out with a chorus of children's voices. For "Everywhere I Am," Jaheim recorded a postcard to his mother, who died before he gained fame; it's another testament to his power as an artist that Still Ghetto never descends into maudlin sentiments. Just like his soul forefathers, everything about Jaheim is honest and heartfelt.

A multi-talented artist, Jaheim is most famous for his R&B vocals, although he has also rapped, modeled, and acted, and he has appeared in Source and other hip-hop publications. Hip-hop balladeer Jaheim Hoagland hails from New Brunswick, NJ, where he grew up in the 176 Memorial Parkway Homes public housing project. Misfortune hit early: his father died in 1981, when he was only two years old. Coming from a musical family helped him overcome the tragedy and the many pitfalls of his environment. His grandfather, Victor Hoagland, sang with many top groups, including the Drifters, and their family reunions were big songfests. Singing at family reunions and local talent shows preceded a successful tryout at the Apollo Theater's notoriously tough talent show. The smooth crooner who sounded like a hybrid of Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross won the contest three times when he was 15.
Two years later, he experienced more tragedy when his mom died. But Hoagland kept the faith and became a sensation in New Jersey at talent shows. Four years after his mom's death, he recorded a tape that led to a deal with Divine Mill Records (a division of Warner Bros.). Hoagland received good reactions from two singles -- "Could It Be" and "Lil' Nigga Ain't Mine" -- on BET video shows. Appearing with Hoagland on his first album was an all-star crew: RL (from Next), Blackstreet, and Darren and Cliff Lighty. His second album, Still Ghetto, was released at the tail end of 2002. Another Top Ten hit, it placed two singles in the Top 40, "Fabulous" and "Anything." Ghetto Classics followed in early 2006 (Valentine's Day, to be exact) and became his first number one album.

You may think that being an R&B balladeer would make you an automatic with the ladies but R&B singer Jaheim recently shared that he's still looking for that special someone. The R&B singer explained that he tries to go on at least a date a week in search of Mrs. Right. He said, "I'm still dating. I'm still dating a lot of dates. I date every week. JAHEIM SAYS JADAKISS IS ONE OF HIS FAVORITES
Jaheim will release his third solo album, Ghetto Classics, on Valentine's Day, February 14th. The release is the first new studio set from the singer in over three years. To create a buzz for the album, Jaheim has released his collaboration with Jadakiss, "Everytime I Think About Her," as the album's lead single.
Jaheim recently shared that he thinks Jadakiss is one of the greatest rappers of all time.
Jaheim's new album will feature the production of Naughty By Nature's Kay Gee who discovered the singer in the late 90s and signed him to his Divine Mill label. In addition to Kay Gee, super producer Scott Storch also contributed a song to the project.
