Tim Burton talks about his new movie "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" at the Lincoln Center (recorded on Nov 14, 2007) in NYC.
"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street", starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, is the long-awaited adaptation of the famed multiple-Tony-award-winning Stephen Sondheim Broadway musical of the same name. The darkly comedic and overwhelmingly tragic musical (which the film reportedly follows very closely, with only minor cuts here and there) tells the story of revenge, lust and baking in the Victorian London.
The original stage version starred Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou, other notable performers in the roles were George Hearn, sir Thomas Allen and Michael Cerveris as Sweeney and Julia McKenzie and Patti LuPone as Mrs. Lovett.
The film, very much appreciated by preview audiences and selected critics who got to see it, also stars Alan Rickman, Sascha Baron Cohen, Timothy Spall and Laura Michelle Kelly.
Buzz indicates high Oscar chances for the leading actors and the director himself.
