My favourite clips from Dennis Potter's 1980 TV drama, Cream in My Coffee. An elderly couple (Lionel Jeffries and Peggy Ashcroft) return to the hotel where they honeymooned in the 1930s and are plagued by memories of the crooner (Martin Shaw) who seduced the young Jean (Shelagh McLeod) when her husband (Peter Chelsom) had to rush home to his overbearing mother. A beautifully evocative drama that prefigures Potter's writing of The Singing Detective. [It is available on the DVD 'Dennis Potter at London Weekend Television.]

Town & Country - the welcome home dinner scene
Town & Country was a potentially good movie that did not deliver.
A script about delayed midlife crisis, a cast of big names that had worked, successfully, together before should practically guarantee success. But instead, T&C is mostly a disaster with only a few highlights, such as this scene.
The script by Michael Laughlin and Buck Henry (the latter used to be so great at writing ensemble comedies), the cast consisting of Diane Keaton (Ellie Stoddard), Warren Beatty (Porter Stoddard),
Goldie Hawn (Mona), Gary Shandling (Griffin), Andie Macdowall (Eugenie Claybourne), Jenna Elfman (Auburn) and Natassja Kinski (Alex) and direction by Peter Chelsom could not prevent this ship
from sinking.
Briefly: Love and lust are in the air, everywhere.
So before he realizes it, "steady as a rock" faithful husband to Ellie (Keaton),
Porter (Beatty) finds himself in a number of unexpected affairs.
First with Alex (Kinski), later with Mona (Hawn) and Eugenie (Macdowall) and all inspired by his best friend Griffin (Shandling) who has been doing the same (although not quite).
