Oak trees during earthquake
A USGS camera stationed along the San Andreas Fault recorded the Sep. 28, 2004 Parkfield earthquake (magnitude 6.0) as it disrupted a grove of Oak Trees.
The camera takes snapshots every 5 minutes until shaking triggers a continuous recording.
The small white poles measure deformation along and across the fault, which runs up the middle of the picture.
The earthquake strikes at 9:53am, or about 44 seconds into the clip.

Newcastle Earthquake
At 10:27 A.M. on Thursday, December 28, 1989 the first fatal earthquake in Australia's history struck the city of Newcastle and the surrounding Hunter Valley region of New South Wales (NSW). The epicentre of the 5.5 Richter magnitude temblor was estimated to be only 5km west of the city center. Combined with the lack of seismic design in the local building stock, the proximity of this earthquake resulted in far greater damage than usual for such a moderate magnitude. The Newcastle Earthquake lasted only five seconds, but killed 12 people, damaged over 3,000 buildings, and resulted in total losses estimated at over (US)$900 million.
