Jake & Paulina Learn Kevin Is Jake's Half-Brother Part 1

These scenes originally aired before the 1992 Valentine Ball, and this is what Kevin meant when he told Jake at the ball that he promised their father he'd look after Jake.

In Lassiter, Paulina is present for a showdown between Jake and Kevin in Jake's childhood home, which Kevin has just bought. They learn that the reason Kevin has been so interested in Jake is that they had the same father, Ray McKinnon, which makes them half-brothers! Jake doesn't believe it. Kevin wishes it weren't true either, but before he died, Ray, who never acknowledged Kevin as his son prior to that, asked Kevin to look out after Jake. Jake tells Kevin he doesn't need him, and Kevin says he has a lot better ways to spend his time than looking after his screw-up half-brother. The men almost come to blows, and Paulina has to stop them. When Jake demands to see Kevin's mother, Kevin tells Jake he can't, because his mother is dead; she died years before Dad. Jake tells Kevin not to call Ray Dad, still refuses to believe they're half-brothers, and orders Kevin out of his father's house. Kevin tells Jake he bought the house and it's Kevin's father's house too. Kevin owes it to his mother's memory to have something of his father's to prove that what they had was real, and he believes his mother would be happy his father asked for him even if it was only because of Jake. Jake says it wasn't real and he'll buy the house. "With what?" Kevin challenges. Then Kevin drops another bombshell: someone that Jake knows and trusts knows the whole story--Bridget! She knew Kevin's mother, Jake and Kevin's father, she knew everything. Jake asks why Bridget didn't tell him. "Why do you think?" Kevin asks. When Paulina points out that Kevin has been in Bay City for months and asks why Bridget hasn't said anything recently, Kevin replies that he's been trying to avoid Bridget at least until he could tell Jake that they're brothers. Paulina suggests they sleep on it, but Jake refuses, saying he's going down to the bar where his father used to hang out and that he'll bet the house and everything in it that he'll be able to prove Kevin is a damn liar, and then Jake storms out, leaving Paulina and Kevin in the house. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Paulina Talks to Kevin About Jake

After leaving the Cory Mansion following her run-in with Jake, Paulina goes to see Kevin and tells him that Jake is getting to her. Kevin tells Paulina he has a date with someone else, and when she's surprised by that, he says that he doesn't understand why she wants to talk to him about having the hots for Jake, and that Kevin is dating again because it's hopeless for Kevin and Paulina and this is the way Paulina wanted things. Kevin throws a bit of a pity party for himself then, saying he's always been the good guy and it hasn't gotten him anywhere. He's tired of taking a back seat to Jake and wanting things he can never have. Everything turned on whether or not Ray McKinnon would acknowledge Kevin as his son, and all of his hard work in school and on sports team and staying out of trouble didn't pay off there, and here's Jake, still doing exactly what he wants to do, and Paulina is playing right into his hands. Paulina asks Kevin if he was interested in her because she was a link to Jake, and he admits that at first he was, because he wondered what kind of woman would be interested in Jake, and he didn't realize until he got to know her that Paulina was so strong, and so willing to look past Jake's flaws and see his potential. Kevin tells Paulina he didn't expect to become friends with her or his feelings to grow stronger than friendship, and when Paulina says she has feelings for Kevin too, Kevin says he has to do something about his feelings for Paulina. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

1992 Bachelor of the Year Part 2 & Jake vs. Kevin

Amanda asks Ada for the go-ahead to start the photo shoot and is concerned when her grandmother tells her she should ask the new management. Ada then tells Amanda to go ahead and do the photo shoot, and they'll talk later, because right now Ada has to wash the egg off her face. Jamie and Paulina watch as Matt, Kevin, and John pose for several group pictures, which eventually leads to the three of them mugging for the camera, led by Matt. Jake seethes in the background when Kevin asks if anyone wants to take bets on which of the three bachelors will get the most fan mail when this issue comes out and Paulina grins and says she will, obviously meaning she thinks Kevin will get the most fan mail. When they take a break, Amanda asks Paulina for her input on something, and Jake confronts Kevin about Paulina and about trashing Jake's memory of his father by proving that Ray McKinnon cheated on Jake's mother. The two men come to blows, and Kevin sends Jake crashing into a table. Jamie breaks up the fight before it really gets out of hand, and then Jake is arguing with both Kevin and Jamie, telling them that Paulina doesn't need either one of them to save her from Jake's clutches, and telling Jamie that if Jamie wants to keep an eye on somebody, he should be keeping an eye on Kevin, reflecting that he's not surprised Kevin and Jamie have teamed up because neither one of them can mind their own business. Kevin retorts that Paulina has no complaints about being with him, and Jamie tells Jake to get the hell out of the Paradise. Paulina yells at all three of them to stop it. Ada yells Jake's name sharply. Jake apologizes to her and tells her he'll pay for the table and dishes he broke when he fell into the table, but Ada tells him to forget about it. She then yanks the tablecloth off the table that Jake crashed into, lets it fall to the floor with the broken dishes, and holds her hand out to Jake, telling him that the new management can deal with it, and she'll walk out with Jake. Ada and Jake leave the Paradise hand in hand, but not before Ada tells Roger Jackson and Carmella to use their master's degrees to deal with that, and Jake tells Kevin and Jamie he's not finished with either one of them. After Ada and Jake leave, Jamie asks Amanda what's with Jake. Amanda replies, "Paulina and friend," and Jamie follows Amanda's gaze to Paulina and Kevin. Paulina asks Kevin if he's all right, and Kevin replies that he can see Paulina told Jake about Paulina and Kevin. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.

Paulina & Kevin--You're As Insecure About Yourself As I Am

This is the Paulina/Kevin scene that took place after Kevin and Felicia helped Paulina get away from the reporters at TOPS and Kevin went to check on Paulina while Felicia went to rescue Cass from that female former client who was throwing herself at him.

Paulina asks Kevin why we always chase dreams we can never catch. Kevin replies that it's in our nature as human beings to believe that anything i possible. When Paulina says she worked and fought to take her rightful place in the Cory family, Kevin points out that that's one dream she chased and caught, and not many people can say that. He tells her that she is good enough for Grant. Paulina retorts that Kevin shouldn't be giving her that kind of advice because Ray McKinnon died never publicly acknowledging Kevin as his son, so Kevin, like Paulina, has spent his whole life trying to prove that he's good enough. Paulina tells Kevin, "You're as insecure about yourself as I am," and says there's nothing either of them can do about it. Thanks to Janie for the scenes.
