The Doors - Light My Fire - Jim Morrison
http://photizo.zaadz.com/blog "Light My Fire" is a song performed by The Doors on their self-titled first album, which was recorded in September of 1966, and released in January of 1967. It peaked at number one on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in 1967, then was re-released in 1968, peaking at number 87. The song was written by Robby Krieger (music/lyrics) and Jim Morrison (lyrics); although writing credit is occasionally given to "The Doors".
The song depicts a couple getting "high", a street word for the euphoric feeling marijuana-users achieve when smoking. "Girl, we couldn't get much higher" is a pun. "Higher" in the aforementioned drug-context is to smoke until one can no longer.[citation needed]
Cover versions were recorded by Astrud Gilberto, Will Young (whose version hit number one in the United Kingdom), Amii Stewart (whose version got to number 6 in the United Kingdom, in 1979, and to number 8 as a remix in 1985) Natalia Oreiro, Jose Feliciano (whose version won a Grammy in 1969 Best Pop song of the year), Nancy Sinatra, Julie Driscoll & the Brian Auger Trinity, Shirley Bassey, Cibo Matto, Divididos, UB40, Massive Attack, Amorphis, hide, Minnie Riperton, Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Ananda Shankar and Train, whose version can be found on the tribute compilation Stoned Immaculate: The Music of The Doors. The Challengers did an instrumental version in 1969, as title track to one of their last albums.
"Light My Fire" is a prime example of psychedelic rock and an early example of jazz-rock, with long, seemingly extemporaneous instrumental solos (though it was shortened from seven to three minutes for the radio version) and some Eastern influences. Its harmonic progression and catchy rhythm (particularly Ray Manzarek's swirling, barrel organ-style keyboard motif) lent itself readily to pop or MOR styled cover versions.
"Light My Fire" was performed by The Doors on a famous appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. In an oft-told legend, The Doors were asked to change the lyrics of the song (specifically, the line "girl, we couldn't get much higher" to "girl, we couldn't get much better") to be more suitable for a coast-to-coast live audience. The band promised to do so, but according to Jim Morrison he forgot to change the lyrics at the last minute and performed the unedited version live on-air. He attributed this to being too nervous. [1]. Despite applause from the crowd Ed Sullivan was so upset that he refused to shake Morrison's hand as he left the stage and the band was subsequently banned from appearing on the show again where they were ready to have a seven show deal in the works. Morrison then said, "Hey, man, we just did the Sullivan show."
John Densmore recalls [2] that when Buick wanted to buy the piece for use in a 1967 TV commercial ("Come on, Buick, light my fire" [3]) and Morrison, who had been out of town, learned that other group members agreed, Morrison called Buick and threatened to have a Buick smashed with a sledgehammer on a TV show should the (presumably ready) commercial be aired.
This song was #35 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Jim Morrison of The Doors in a 1964 Promo Video for FSU
Jim Morrison as you've never seen him... Clean cut and dressed in a suit. Morrison briefly attended FSU (before going to UCLA Film School) and participated in this promotional video for the college. Within a year after this, he would meet The Doors' keyboardist, Ray Manzarek, and the rest is history. NOTE: The next time Jim would be back in Florida is 5 years later (1969) at the infamous Miami concert where he would be charged with indecent exposure and reckless behavior. :)

Jim Morrison: Last 1971 Rolling Stone Interview p.1 of 8
In 1971, Morrison gave Rolling Stone his final U.S. interview.(Thanks to Ghostryder1967 for Blessing me w\this "Jim") Ben Fong Torres Quote: "Working for Rolling Stone, I used to pop into Hollywood on a regular basis. Sometimes I stayed at the apartment of a rock publicist friend, Diane. One of her neighbors was Pamela Courson-Jim Morrison's old lady. One Feb. afternoon in 1971, Jim came around, looking for Pamela. She wasn't there, so he decided to hang out & wait.
When Diane introduced us, I asked for an interview. He and I hit it off right away, and got into doing this parody of a TV talk show. I played Dick Cavett; he was a rock star. He told a couple of jokes so risque that they would have gotten Cavett canned, and then, with my cheap cassette recorder running, we settled into a pretty serious chat about the Doors and the blues; the future of rock, and his own future.
Despite his reputation as a wild man; despite his busts for obscenity and for exposing himself on stage, Morrison had struck me, in published interviews, as a smart, thougthful guy. Maybe he wasn't quite the poet and artieste he fancied himself to be, but at least he was playing with the conventions of rock, performance, and theatre. He was at home on the edge.
Jim was planning to move to paris within weeks, and this turned out to be his last interview before his departure in March. In July, I was in Hollywood again visiting with his friends and associates, and writing his obiturary".
"I think there's a certain moment when you're right in time with your audience, and then you both grow out of it and you both have to realize it," Morrison told Rolling Stone. "It's not that you've outgrown your audience; it has to go on to something else."

JIM MORRISON in Feast of Friends
This is the fourth clip of the 16 mm colorfilm Feast of Friends, and final one of this serie.
You see the beginning of the film with Jim in the back of a huge limo, driving to a gig. He gets out of the car and is surrounded by girls who kiss him.
There's some extra footage included of Jim hanging out in a snackbar and Jim taking the metro...
I'm planning to put on other rare clips. Rare parts of the private film of Jim called HWY (read: highway) will be available soon on "blonduo" I have one of the first copies made back in the 60s so quality is realy good.
Enjoy for now... Blonduo
