Based on the classic 1971 novel by Richard Matheson (who also wrote Somewhere In Time), it stars Robin Williams as a man who dies in a car crash, and ascends to heaven under the guidance of angel Cuba Gooding Jr. However, Christy's love for his wife Annabella Sciorra lives on, and when she commits suicide after his death, he vows to rescue her from hell and bring her safely back into paradise. The main theme of the OST is based on "Beside You", an old song written by Michael Kamen and his friend Mark Snow, and it's delicate, yearning melody perfectly captures the film's message of love continuing beyond the grave. Its initial performance in 'I Once Met This Beautiful Girl By A Lake' is an oboe solo by Kamen himself, offset by a lovely acoustic guitar. It receives further full renditions later on, most notably as a fully orchestral piece featuring Andrew Schulman's lovely cello in 'Beside You/Divorce', and finally as a song performed with mellow vocals by Simply Red's Mick Hucknall. 	A CALL TO COURAGE Saxman Darron McKinney is a Police Officer for the Detroit Public School District. In the 1980s, he majored in jazz studies at Southern University in Baton Rouge La, under Jazz Master Alvin Batiste of New Orleans. After Leaving Louisiana, he returned to Detroit, quicklly getting back into the mainstream. Among the artist he has worked with are Roy Ayers, Betty"BEBOP"Carter,Joe Sample,Cuba Gooding Sr, Regina Belle, Mikki Howard and Waymen Tisdale. Luther Jackson of 7 MILE makes a guest appearance on McKinney's cd entitled A Call To Courage, on a tune entitled "Never Alone". McKinney and his Brother Nathan wrote the songs recorded on this project. McKinney comes from a musical family, he has ten siblings and was born and raised in Detroit Michigan. McKinney caught the attention of people nationwide when he gave a riveting performance of his original song, "A Call to Courage," at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial candlelight vigil on May 13, 2001, in Washington, D.C. The song was a tribute to slain police officers and their families. The song features vocals by Nichelle Colvin and has gained in significance after the September 11, 2001 attacks, a coincidence that McKinney finds prophetic--especially since he was invited to perform the song before 18,000 people in Washington, DC nearly 4 months to the day before the attacks occurred. What is even more ironic to McKinney is that he performed the song approximately a half-mile from where the plane would strike the Pentagon But God goes ahead of us says McKinney. Several branches of the US armed services have now picked up on the song and have used it as a rallying point of sorts, and it is even being broadcast on the Pentagon Network around the world. Many cable and educational TV stations have also begun broadcasting the video footage of McKinney's performance of the song that day in Washington, D.C. including Comcast cable in the Detroit area. While McKinney is, in his words, "humbled " by the widespread acceptance the song has received, he states that his initial aim was merely to let his fellow officers know that they were loved and appreciated, a fact that many do not realize until it is too late. 	Tevin Campbell - Just Ask Me To (Boyz N The Hood Soundtrack) Birth date: November 12, 1976 Birthplace: Waxahachie, TX There's some dispute over who actually discovered Texas child sensation Tevin Campbell. Some accounts credit flutist Bobbi Humphrey, while much of the publicity material credits Quincy Jones. It's assured that Campbell first came to the notice of music fans just after his 11th birthday in late 1989 when he appeared on Jones' LP Back on the Block and was featured on "Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)," which hit number one on the R&B charts in June 1990. With his high, flexible tenor, Campbell recalled an earlier Jones protégé, Michael Jackson. Later that year, he appeared in Prince's Graffiti Bridge film singing "Round and Round," which Prince wrote for him and which became a gold single. Next, in the summer of 1991, he appeared on the soundtrack to Boyz in the Hood singing "Just Ask Me To," a Top Ten R&B hit. All of this set the stage for his debut album, 1991's T.E.V.I.N., which went platinum and spawned two R&B chart-toppers, "Tell Me What You Want Me to Do" and "Alone with You," as well as the R&B Top Five hit "Goodbye." I'm Ready, released two years later, did even better, going double platinum and featuring three R&B chart hits -- the number one "Can We Talk," "I'm Ready," which went Top Five, and "Always in My Heart," which reached the Top Ten. He even did some more acting on the "Fresh Prince of Bell Air" playing Ashley's( Tatiana Ali) date. But 1996's Back to the World was a sales disappointment, and 1999's Tevin Campbell did even worse. Starring Cuba Gooding Jr., Ice Cube, Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett, Regina King, Nia Long, and Morris Chestnut, the film depicts life in crime-ridden South Central (now South) Los Angeles, California, and was filmed and released shortly before the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. It was nominated for both Best Director and Original Screenplay during the 1991 Academy Awards, making John Singleton the youngest person ever nominated for Best Director and the first African-American to be nominated for the award. In 2002, the United States Library of Congress deemed the film "culturally significant" and selected it for preservation in the National Film Registry.
