Atlanta 1996 OC-Past Opening Ceremonies And Don Mischer
The first part of this clip highlights the moments of past Olympic open ceremonies from Athens 1896 (birthplace of the modern Olympic Games and birth of the Olympic Hymn). Besides those first Olympiad of the modern era, others are mentioned as well:
- Antwerp 1920 (birth of the Olympic Flag and Oaths); - Paris 1924 (birth of the Olympic motto - Citius, Altius, Fortius); - Amsterdam 1928 (birth of entertainment and the Olympic cauldron); - Berlin 1936 (birth of the Olympic Torch Relay); - London 1948 (birth of the "doves of peace"); - Tokyo 1964 (Hiroshima survivor of atomic bomb lights Olympic cauldron); - Mexico City 1968 (first woman to light Olympic cauldron); - Montreal 1976 (first couple to light Olympic cauldron); - Los Angeles 1984 (Olympic opening ceremony enters a "new modern age"); and, - Barcelona 1992 (the famous flaming arrow shot by Paralympian, Antonio Rebollo, to Olympic cauldron).
Next, the executive producer of the Atlanta 1996 ceremonies, Don Mischer, was given an interview about his feelings and opinions about taking on this task of creating an Olympic ceremony. Most of all, you will hear why he chose TWO CANADIANS to do the Atlanta 1996 theme song. Most of you know them as David Foster of British Columbia and Celine Dion of Quebec.
The final segment of this clip highlighted the way the Olympic torch and Flame were carried into various stadia and lit into their respective cauldrons, from Amsterdam 1928 to Lillehammer 1994.

Balloon Drop Failure at 2004 DNC - CNN Snafu
Don Mischer (director, producer) throws the F word on live national television, during his tirade after the 2004 Democratic National Convention. The balloon drop had problems, and CNN mistakenly brought the control audio feed live as he directed the semi-famous doomed balloon and confetti drop. The anchors try to explain, only adding to the hilarity. Note Jeff Greenfield mentions the failure possibly being a bad omen for the Kerry campaign, similar to a weak balloon drop in New York for Carter in 1980. "We may have heard a profanity, Wolf.."
