Men of all ages wore basic black and white last night at the Oscars. The biggest decision was bowtie or long tie, unless we're talking about Mickey Rourke who stood out in his bright white suit, proving once again he is doing things his way. Brad added more facial hair, upgrading his mustache to full-on goatee. Robert Downey Jr. was clean-shaven and looking adorably young.
The younger crowd mixed up their hairstyles where Zac slicked his back while Robert Pattinson went spiky. They both kept a straight face while James Franco and Dev Patel were all smiles. Many of these men had their beautiful girlfriends or wives by their side, which could explain some of their big grins. The 2009 Oscar nominees got to mix and mingle with their competition at the annual luncheon thrown in their honor in Beverly Hills earlier today. Brad and Angelina sat this one out, but Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, Robert Downey Jr., and lots of others were happy to come out and pose in front of the the big golden statue. Anne Hathaway revealed that her big date to the event will be her dad, and she is even hoping to score extra tickets for her mother and brother. This weekend award season kept on rolling and this time it was all about the directors. Slumdog Millionaire continued its winning streak as Danny Boyle received the night's top honor for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film at the Directors Guild Awards in LA. This honor helps the movie secure its Oscar worthy odds in a few weeks. Angelina Jolie will be joining him with her own Best Actress nod for Changeling — congrats! Doubt and Frost/Nixon were also big winners with five nominations each and noticeably absent from the awards was Milk, with only one nomination for Sean Penn as Best Actor. Kate Winslet's movies came out on top as well with Revolutionary Road and The Reader each getting four nominations, including Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor, Kate for Best Actress (in Revolutionary Road), her husband Sam for Best Director and Best Drama for both of the movies. Kate also got Best Supporting Actress for The Reader. Heath Ledger got a Best Supporting Actor nod posthumously, although Dark Knight didn't score anything else, and will be going up against Tom Cruise who received a nomination for Tropic Thunder.
For TV, we're excited that Alec and Tina scored Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, for 30 Rock as well as Best TV Comedy. Recount and In Treatment were each given five nods and one of our favorites, Californication scored a Best TV Series, Comedy and Best Actor for David Duchovny. Congratulations to all of the nominees!
