Ty Pennington has home improvement down pat--it's self-improvement he's ready to work on.
The "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" guru pleaded no contest Friday to one misdemeanor count of willfully operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent or higher, stemming from an arrest earlier this month.
A second misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs was dismissed.
He was sentenced to three years' probation, fined $390 fine, ordered to attend alcohol-education classes for three months and had his license suspended for 90 days. He also must do community service in the form of a Mothers Against Drunk Driving speaking engagement.
"I'm happy to bring closure to my recent court proceedings," Pennington said in a statement. "Drinking and driving is never acceptable. I have pleaded no contest and will abide by the court's ruling."
"I hope this experience can help others as much as it has helped me."

A crack has emerged in Ty Pennington's foundation.
Stemming from his weekend DUI bust, the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" guru was charged Tuesday with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and willfully operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 or higher, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office confirmed to E! Online.
Arraignment has been set for June 4 at L.A.'s Airport Branch Courthouse. Pennington, 42, is facing a maximum penalty of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
Cops pulled Pennington over at about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, after which the hunky handyman registered a 0.14 percent blood-alcohol level, nearly twice the state legal limit. He was taken into custody and released at 2:50 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail.
Further details about the circumstances that led to Pennington's overloaded system were not available, but the ABC primetime personality has already admitted to taking a wrong turn and publicly apologized.

The tool belt-sporting carpenter of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition fame issued a mea culpa Monday after logging some time in a Los Angeles jail over the weekend on a driving-under-the-influence charge.
Pennington, 42, was arrested about 12:15 a.m. Saturday by Los Angeles Police Department officers on the city's Westside, a department spokeswoman said Monday. He was released at 2:50 a.m. after posting $5,000 bail. A court hearing on the misdemeanor is set for June 4.
No further details were immediately available, but Pennington was quick to work damage control.
"I made an error in judgment. We all make mistakes, however this is about accountability," he said in a statement. "Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call."
