BALTIMORE — John Travolta didn't show up for the premiere of "Hairspray" in the city that inspired it. Neither did Michelle Pfeiffer, Queen Latifah or Christopher Walken.
The cast of Hairspray kept the party going long after the film premiered in NYC. The star-studded cast is obviously very excited for their movie to hit the theaters this weekend, and it sounds like they couldn't be more proud of their project. The film had special meaning for its star Nikki Blonsky, who makes her debut in the movie and can't wait to spread the message behind Hairspray. She said,
"This has just been the most incredible dream come true for me. This is everything I've ever wanted and more -- just to get out there and show the world that different is great and uniqueness is beautiful, and that's what it's all about."
Hairspray is a classic and yet we're so looking forward to checking out this remake. Who doesn't get excited for a fun, feel-good musical? To hear more about Nikki's first experience in the movie industry, check out Buzz's exclusive interview here.
It was the LBD brigade at last night's NYC premiere of Hairspray. Michelle once again looked absolutely phenomenal. What is it about her -- lucky lucky eternally 25! It's always a treat to see the stars of the film, but Holy Katie Holmes! Yowza! She surprised the crowd just by showing up, but seeing her in that skin tight little number is what is more shocking for me. I do love seeing her with little Suri all the time, but youthful happy Katie is awesome to see, too. All the other ladies -- Amanda, Nikki, Queen -- looked outstanding as well, especially little Brittany Snow who looks a whole lot better than last week's too yellow number. ICYMI, let Buzz's interview with Nikki Blonsky get you excited to see the movie this weekend!
To see A TON more pictures of the event including John Waters himself, Christopher Walken (finally), Edie Falco, Paula Abdul, Nathan Lane, Rachel Dratch, Lisa Rinna, Clive Davis and lots lots more just
Pete paid homage to the legendary More Cowbell Christopher Walken SNL skit arriving at LAX with Ashlee yesterday. Maybe he made it to be her date at the Simpson family weekend wedding after all -- I can only imagine how Pete gets along with Papa Joe (ahem, not well). Pete and Ashlee have been pretty inseparable over the past few months, including what sounds like a romantic 4th of July in the Hamptons. Pete was hosting a party at which he dedicated JT's Summer Love to his girl. Ash repaid the favor by lip syncing the lyrics, "I can't wait to fall in love with you" back to him. Sounds like this may be more than just a little Summer Love for these two...or someone's heart may be broken come September. Awwww...
Last night Vantiy Fair helped kick off the Tribeca Film Festival with a party attended by a variety of big names. Robert De Niro and David Bowie were among those who flashed big smiles for the cameras, but apparently there is a fair amount of tension between these two under the surface. It seems that De Niro is not a big fan of Bowie's High Line Festival, which is set to start just three days after Tribeca ends and is catered towards a younger crowd. Here's more:
But a source at the Tribeca festival sniffed to Page Six: "I think they are envisioning themselves as Slamdance to our Sundance and living off the success of Sundance."
Some High Liners believe De Niro has already sabotaged them by keeping Tribeca's public relations team, Rubenstein Communications, from doing press for High Line, the Web site reports. De Niro's flack had no comment. But one longtime De Niro pal insisted, "He could care less."
Rubenstein Communications President Steven Rubenstein denies there's any feud, adding that Bowie was set to attend last night's Tribeca kickoff party sponsored by Vanity Fair. Bowie told us in a statement: "I am afraid I have no control over the inexplicable comments from the High Line producers. I think the Tribeca Film Festival is unique and irreplaceable."
Seems like a lot of fuss over nothing. Besides, Robert should have nothing to worry about, it is his festival thats premiering Spider-man 3, which is sure to be a huge hit!
