SAN DIEGO — The Village People's first cop wants a revamped version of the group to stop using his likeness and voice. The lawsuit filed last week in San Diego by Victor Willis claims companies continue to use his voice and picture to promote the new Village People. He is seeking at least $1 million and a judge's order that they can no longer use his image or voice.

LOS ANGELES — Victor Willis, the original policeman in the disco band The Village People, is planning his first performance in about 25 years after completing a drug treatment program earlier this year, his publicist said.
Victor Willis has admitted to abusing drugs. As for abusing his girlfriend--no way, he says.
San Diego prosecutors decided last week not to press charges against the former Village People singer, who was arrested last month on suspicion of roughing up his live-in girlfriend.
City Attorney's Office spokeswoman Maria Velasquez said that her office would not be pursuing the case for "evidentiary reasons." Willis, a recovering drug addict who's currently on probation for cocaine possession, was looking at possible charges of battery, criminal threat and domestic violence battery with no injury.
"There was simply a minor disagreement between Victor and his fiancee who are residing together in a penthouse apartment in San Diego's La Jolla area. Victor loves her very much and she loves Victor," Willis' publicist, Alice Wolf, said in a statement posted on the artist's Website.

And that's what Victor Willis, who suited up as the original cop for disco hitmakers the Village People, plans to do after he's finally sentenced on a drug charge he pleaded no contest to in July.
Willis' publicist, Alice Wolf, said Thursday that her client planned to enter a 90-day treatment program at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, and then move to another facility for six months or longer, once a San Mateo Superior Court judge rules on whether he can work on getting better in a live-in rehab facility or should serve up to two years in state prison.

Victor Willis, a founding member of the '70s disco band, released a statement Monday, saying that he is doing his best to get his life back on track while remaining behind bars for alleged cocaine possession following his arrest in March.
