After six years of yuks, paunchy sidekick Artie Lange said on air Thursday that he intends to quit "The Howard Stern Show" on Sirius Satellite Radio in January.
The 39-year-old Lange's spontaneous announcement surprised Stern and his morning crew, who apparently weren't aware of Lange's plans.
"Howard, I feel like I'm going nuts," the rotund comic said. "I am burnt out from the road. The longer I stay here, the longer they are going to throw these gigs at me."
Stern and Lange then got into an argument about whether Lange should see a shrink before making any final decision.
"The pain in your life will never change whether you are working or not," Stern said.
