Casey Affleck's Latest News

Casey Affleck and his wife Summer Phoenix brought their two sons out for a family lunch in LA Thursday. Summer carried the baby, Atticus, while Indiana stuck by Casey's side looking every bit the mini me. The whole crew is quite the precious foursome, and while Indiana has his cousin Violet old enough to play with, baby Atticus will soon get another Affleck cousin who will grow up right behind him. Casey's been taking a break from the big screen after his big year including Gone Baby Gone and his Oscar nod for The Assassination of Jesse James, so hopefully we'll get to see the Affleck brothers and their families enjoying the endless LA Summer.

Casey Affleck and his son Indiana August were fully prepared for any danger that might come their way on their walk in LA yesterday. How cute is this twosome with their toy swords? We love that Casey is just a big kid at heart, always matching his oldest son from hoodies to sweatbands. We wonder if Casey will keep up the male bonding by treating his little swordsman to his newest namesake blockbuster when Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull hits theaters.

It's usually the other Affleck brother we see playing the doting dad, but Casey looks mighty adorable playing with his eldest son, Indiana August, in LA yesterday. He seems like he would be such a fun dad, not to mention uncle to our favorite Violet. We still haven't gotten to see his new addition, born on January 12 and ... whose name we still don't know. So, I guess it's too much to ask for some pictures of the little guy?

Do you like looking at handsome actors in pretty suits? Then last night's Oscars must be right up your alley! Yes, it's true, the men for the most part played it safe but there's no way to complain about seeing the likes of Clooney and Dempsey at their most dapper. Yum. Javier Bardem didn't walk with his girlfriend Penelope Cruz, but he looked confident on his way in to win his little gold man. Check out all the winners here! Johnny Depp is always a favorite so he could have shown up in jeans — no complaints. Sure, they may not be as colorful or exciting (or red!) as all the ladies red carpet looks, but with all these men there's gotta be a little manjoyment for everyone here. Yesterday afternoon in LA, this year's Oscar nominees got together for a little luncheon to start celebrating themselves. While the show is still in limbo due to the writers' strike, the good news that there have been "breakthroughs" in negotiations keep us hoping that all will be good well before the red carpet kicks off. 2008 Award Season staples Javier Bardem and Casey Affleck were back in suits alongside Juno's Diablo Cody and Ellen Page (who still looks a tad uncomfortable on the red carpet). Nominee and lunch-er George Clooney seemed similarly optimistic, saying, "I think it's got a good shot at it, and I think it's a great sign. It looks very good...I've never crossed a picket line, and would never. I belong to six unions, so it makes it hard." Though he didn't seem too confident about his chances in the Best Actor category, saying about Daniel Day Lewis, "He screws the whole thing up because he's so good." The Oscars are less than a month away, who's excited?

Well, we jinxed it. Sorry folks. Just when we thought Sarah Larson was no longer in the picture, Clooney shows up with her on the red carpet at the 2007 National Board of Review Annual Awards Gala last night in NYC. George was there to take home Best Actor honors for Michael Clayton. The Garner-Afflecks were there for Ben's big Best Directorial Debut award but the couple walked the red carpet separately as always. So much for settling in on the west coast. Brand new dad, Casey Affleck, came to take home his Best Supporting Actor award while adorable Ellen Page picked up Breakthrough Performance by an Actress. The big honor of the evening went to Michael Douglas who claimed the Career Achievement Award. Hate to say he looks to be about the ripe age to get it but at least he's got Catherine to keep him young.

The Golden Globes may be canceled but not all award shows are affected. The 13th Annual Critics' Choice Awards kicked off the season and a-listers like George, Don, and Brad and Angie came out to walk the red carpet. Brad looks like even he is growing a strike beard which is another reason we should end this writers' strike quickly. The Hairspray and Juno casts were all smiles as well as Javier who would
win big that night. Seeing the stars dressed up so nicely makes us hope they still go big for the revised globes news telecast since it would be a shame to waste all those beautiful dresses that are already reserved. One lady who was definitely taking advantage of the red carpet glamour was Emily Deschanel. She really took it seriously - tell Bella do you love it or hate it?

While the Golden Globes show is canceled this year, last night's Critics' Choice Awards brought out some A-Listers in LA. The stars all looked great on the red carpet and inside got down to honoring each other. The writers' strike was the topic of the night, but there were still some light hearted moments up on stage. Katie Holmes looked fabulous (in her toga) giving out an award while Angelina and Brad were ever the popular kids fielding visits at their table from Clooney/Queen Latifah and Casey Affleck. Javier really ran away with the show at the end up three times in a row to accept for himself, the Coens and the movie. He got in an anti-Bush jab, but his real acceptance speech was totally sweet. Even though celebrities have been getting ready for the holidays, there are still movies to premiere, awards to announce, and parties to attend. Here's what went down:

• The Golden Globe nominations were announced! And we were so happy to see some of our favorites like Clooney, Gosling and Casey Affleck get the nods.
• Jessica Alba announced her pregnancy, and then we got a peek at her nonexistent baby bump!
• This week marked the return of Britney's pink wig and the release of her new video. Because of a medical condition, she missed her scheduled deposition and now Kevin is asking the court not to give Britney any more allowances.
• After dumping Riley, Lindsay was spotted kissing a mystery man between shopping and, uh, more shopping. She also got back to work in the recording studio with JR Rotem.
• Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen went to Las Vegas and the Spike TV Video Game Awards to promote their movie Jumper, then headed over to Dubai for a film festival.
• Paris Hilton left Miami earlier this week for Paris and then Berlin, where she promoted her new line of Prosecco and made a new German friend.
• Will Smith started off the week in LA, where he received a star on the Walk of Fame, with pal Tom Cruise looking on proudly. He then headed to NYC where he stopped by TRL to promote I Am Legend before attending the premiere, again, with pal Tom Cruise.

Casey Affleck is still promoting Gone Baby Gone alongside his big brother, but these days he's catching our attention all on his own. He's talked about keeping his personal life out of the media and joked about not being a recognizable star, and in the process, Casey has won us over with his adorably snarky comments. His recent interview with Express is no exception, as he talks about disliking work and proves he doesn't take anything too seriously. Here are highlights:

• On the role he enjoys most:
  "To be perfectly honest, I don't really enjoy playing anybody, except Casey Affleck lying on the couch watching the Red Sox. For whatever reason, it's either because it doesn't come naturally to me or because I'm just somehow inclined toward strife. I don't know what it is, but, usually, when I'm working, I'm not really having a good time."
• On the 'Year of Casey':
  Does that mean I get a calendar? What does that mean about January? Is my year over? I feel like every year is another year of my life. I never realized the first 31 years were somebody else's.

Casey is a smartass, but there's something charming about his refusal to buy into the Hollywood lifestyle. That said, he might want to get used to becoming more popular since it looks like we'll be seeing a lot of this leading man in the future.

The Affleck brothers were the men of the hour at last night's Hollywood Film Festival's Hollywood Awards. Brad Pitt handed Casey Affleck the award for Breakthrough Actor of the Year (an honor bestowed on one Miss Lindsay Lohan last year) while Ben walked away with one the Breakthrough Director of the Year. That's the second year in a row on this stage for Ben (last year he won Supporting Actor), but it must have been that much sweeter to share the press room with Casey. John Travolta also walked away with this year's Supporting Actor statue and shared the Ensemble win with the rest of his Hairspray cast. Meanwhile, CZJ didn't go home with any honors, but yowza on the dress. Let Award Season begin!
