Whether or not they won or lost last night, the nominees got together after the Awards for the Governors ball. George and Sarah stuck to water while he made the rounds introducing her to everyone. He was also happy to point out to everyone how good she looked (though you might not agree) and offered to carry her when she commented about her dress being too heavy. Sigh. Casey didn't walk away with a statue but still came to the party, while other also-rans Viggo and Cate had a moment over her pregnant belly. By the end of the party, I'm sure all the a-listers were ready to get out of the formal wear. Yesterday afternoon in LA, this year's Oscar nominees got together for a little luncheon to start celebrating themselves. While the show is still in limbo due to the writers' strike, the good news that there have been "breakthroughs" in negotiations keep us hoping that all will be good well before the red carpet kicks off. 2008 Award Season staples Javier Bardem and Casey Affleck were back in suits alongside Juno's Diablo Cody and Ellen Page (who still looks a tad uncomfortable on the red carpet). Nominee and lunch-er George Clooney seemed similarly optimistic, saying, "I think it's got a good shot at it, and I think it's a great sign. It looks very good...I've never crossed a picket line, and would never. I belong to six unions, so it makes it hard." Though he didn't seem too confident about his chances in the Best Actor category, saying about Daniel Day Lewis, "He screws the whole thing up because he's so good." The Oscars are less than a month away, who's excited?
