After scrapping a heavily hyped fantasy blockbuster based on the life of Robert Ripley, the creator of "Ripley's Believe It or Not" that would've been directed by Tim Burton and star Jim Carrey, Paramount Pictures has now revived the project for a planned 2009 release, according to "Variety."
The Mountain originally planned for "Ripley's Believe It or Not" to be one of its big 2008 summer tent poles. But with Hollywood seeking to scale back on the salaries it pays A-listers (see Paramount cutting ties with Tom Cruise), Paramount's top job in transition--with producer Brad Grey taking control from longtime boss Sherry Lansing--and the budget spiraling well above $150 million, the studio decided enough was enough and pulled the plug.
Paramount is paying Steve Oedekerk ("Bruce Almighty") a seven-figure sum to write the screenplay. Carrey and Burton are still attached to the project. No word yet on a new start date.
